Building Confidence In God

Let’s talk about building confidence…Godly confidence!

The word confidence is a combination of 2 specific words.
1. ‘Con’ which means “with”  and 2 ‘fidence’ which means “faith”.
So the the word confidence means literally means “with faith”

There basically 3 types of confidence that exists in the world
1. Godly Confidence – “faith in God”
2. Self Confidence – “faith in yourself”
3. General Confidence – “faith in others/things”

Let’s take a look at the first type of confidence – confidence in God. This is the most important of the 3 simply because having confidence in God can produce confidence in yourself, and boost your faith in others.

One of the most important things to learn about confidence is that it happens because of relationship. Because there is a connection between you and the person or thing that you have faith in, you develop a trust that allows you to rely on them to perform and do what that have said they would do. So in other words, when you don have any self confidence, it really means that you don’t even trust yourself to do what you think you can…that’s a very sad case!

Because we understand that confidence is based on relationship, then lack of confidence must be the result of little or no relationship.

Let me explain this relationship confidence building idea…

Have you ever seen a child in his father’s arms? Now imagine the father throwing the kid up into the air and catching him again before he hits that ground. Most of us has had a similar experiece growing up as kids, it’s a mixture between fun and fear. The child feels good rising high into the air and it is fun, then he feels fearful coming down because the ground is rushing towards him and he already knows the pain of falling. But just before he hits the ground, strong arms catch him and he is safe. Then like most children on the planet, he makes a really crazy decision and scream out again…again!

This relationship between father and son grows stronger and stronger with each mid-air catch as the child learns to rely on the fact that Dad won’t let me hit the ground. So these experiences produce confidence in the father.

Our confidence in God grows the exact same way. As children, God clearly shows us that He has our best interest at heart; we go through rough times and He shows up to help us and and confirm to us that we are not alone. This connected relationship brings us to a point where we believe and trust in His words. If He says so, we believe it is so, simply because He has already proven to us that He stands behind His words.

Godly confidence is built through personal connection and relationship with God – the way we connect and relate to Him opens doors for us to prove His love in our lives and experience all that He has for us.

How To Control Your Thoughts Before They Control You

Why must you desire to govern your thoughts? As the old wise saying goes, you are what you think. If you cannot control your thoughts, your thoughts will control you.

As soon as other individuals say things that bring a harmful notion into your head, you need to control whether you let it stay there. If you don’t contain that control, your brain will start to build other feelings off of that original idea; whether it was real or not.

How do you start controlling your thoughts? First of all you need to know that it is feasible. After that, if you have a thought that you should not keep, do not chat about that thought. Proverbs 30:32 says, “If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.” Saying something about that thought simply reinforces it. What If Jesus Walked A Day In Your Shoes?

Imagine that as the morning sun rises on a new day, Jesus becomes you. He has a full 24 hours to experience your life. You boss becomes His boss, your mother becomes his mother…Nothing changes except for one thing – for the next 24 hours, you have the heart and mind of Christ living inside you.

How hard can it be to walk with Jesus?

These next 24 hours would be the most interesting thing that you have ever witnessed in your life, I’m sure! But what would be different? Would the people you deal with everyday notice a difference? What would be their experience with this “new” you?

In Philippians 2:5 it says “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” We have all heard the saying, “what would Jesus do”, but how many people actually follow their own advice? How many let the heart of Jesus rule their lives? how m any literally choose to walk with Jesus every single day? [Read more...]

The Lawnmower Bag & Apostle Paul

lawnmowerYou came in, looked at the topic up for our bible devotions discussion today and probably thought, “hey, they didn’t have lawnmowers in the bible days, how could the Apostle Paul possibly had one to use?”

And since I don’t want to keep you in suspense too long, follow me as I explain.

I usually hire a gardener to take care of my yard – to cut the grass – remove the weeds and such because I sometimes don’t always have the time – and I hate to see a overgrown landscape.

Though, there are times I do have the time, and I enjoy getting out there in the cool morning air and getting a bit of exercise and meditation and I push the lawnmower myself. I’ll just plug in my iPod with some praise and worship music, and I have a great time enjoying God and nature. [Read more...]

Jesus And The Dog Who Got Healed???

Now I know what you were probably thinking when you read that title above…

You probably said to yourself “Hey, wait – Jesus never healed any dog – what are you talking about?” – so, let me break down the bible devotions thought for today so you get a full grasp of the discussion.

The book of Matthew 15 chapter verses 22 – 28 records a strange interaction between Jesus and a woman looking to him for deliverance for her daughter.

The story says that Jesus was in a specific region when he was approached by a Canaanite woman whose daughter was being cruelly afflicted by evil spirits, and she came begging Jesus for help.

What did Jesus do? He simply ignored he and turned away – but she kept begging and pleading so much that the disciples began to get annoyed. They complained to Jesus saying “Why don’t you just take care of her, she is bothering us and it is driving us crazy“. [Read more...]
