Busy But Not Effective

The worst thing to do in your life is to be busy, but ineffective.

Most people equate busyness to fulfillment. They try to convince themselves that as long as they are doing something, then that must be a good, so they are on their way to success…

That is the dumbest idea about success that people try to trick themselves into believing. If it was that easy, and all you had to do was be busy all the time, then why do people work 2 & 3 jobs to the point where they are exhausted, yet they still sit home alone, miserable, frustrated & stressed out.

It’s because it is not the quantity of what you do with your life, it is the quality of what you do.

If you will ever win in life and walk in fulfillment, meaning, happiness, and along the significant life purpose path that you were born to walk, there are two simple thing you need to do…

1. Discover what your #1 main things is – your true life assignment…

2. Focus on your #1 main thing more than anything else…

Most of our lives are too cluttered with unnecessary stuff which we don’t need, use, or things which don’t bring us any satisfaction – but we keep them around simply because we if we get rid of them, then we will see how truly empty our lives really are.

It never has to be this way…

Your life’s purpose is the main thing in your life that when you begin focusing on it, you instantly begin removing the clutter and freeing up yourself simply because you realize that most of the things around you, aren’t necessary for fulfilling your life’s purpose – they might keep you back instead.

When you focus on your main thing, all of a sudden, your life becomes simpler, easier, and much more effective because you are only focusing on doing the one great thing well.

Work to discover your main thing – your life’s assignment and focus all your attention on fulfilling it – it will lead you down many paths and you will have an exciting, passion-filled, significant journey…I guarantee it!

Finding Fulfillment In Your Work

When it comes to doing something with our lives, I believe that one of the biggest mistakes most people make is not understanding the difference between their job and their work…

Now you might be thinking – “hey, aren’t they both one and the same thing?”

Let’s take a look at both of them…

A job is – a specific task done as part of the routine of one’s occupation or for an agreed price

work – productive or operative activity – which is the ability to use your power, skills and influence.

The problem arises when you try to find significance and meaning on your job without first understanding what type of work you should be doing. You job may just be the place you go where you trade your time and talents to collect a pay-check so you could survive – and there is nothing wrong with that.

But…to find significance, meaning and purpose in your life, you have to tap into your life’s work. Your life’s work is doing those things that make you feel happy – you enjoy what you do so you do it to the best of your abilities; those things that make you feel significant – what you do matters to someone and it bring meaning into your own life; those things that allow you to share your life gifts, your talents, & your time and you could do it even if there was no money involved; those things that energize your passion, quicken your steps – all because you just know you are in the right place in your life.

This is what happens when you understand what you life’s work really is…

And the golden path is unveiled when your life’s work actually aligns with your job – you do what you love, feel fulfilled, make significant contibutions into the lives of others – and you get rewarded for your efforts…talk about life bliss…

Make Your Great – Greater

We all have two life degrees…

There is the weak degree…and the strong degree

We all are uniquely great at doing somethings remarkably well in our strong degree – and we totally suck at doing certain things in our weak degree.

We have been taught most of our lives that we are to strengthen our weaknesses and while there is some level of truth in that statement – the truth being that if your weakness is destroying your life, then you should do something about that situation.

But most of the times, it isn’t that some of our shortcoming destroy our lives, but it is because we manage them badly, they often make us look bad – no matter what we do to improve them.

Here’s an example…

I am great at writing and creating fresh ideas or solutions for doing different things – I can come up with creative ways just by hearing you talk about the problem – that’s just the way I’m wired to work as an individual…

I can sit down and write with passion and excitement on any topic I like as soon as I sit at the computer to type.

But…I totally suck at editing…

I will write and my writing will contain all kinds of mistakes – and I will read my writing and still miss most of them. My wife is the total opposite…she can sit to read something I wrote, and in 30 second find all the bad grammer, mis-spelled word etc…but give her something to write, and she’ll be stuck with a blank screen for hours.

I have worked on my editing weakness for years, and it still is a weakness for me – so instead of focusing on my weakness, I focus on my strength of writing and let my wife do all the editing…she enjoys it anyway.

What’s the point?

You will always have various weaknesses in your life as you move to fulfilling your life’s purpose – don’t allow them to stop you. What you focus on the most always gets stronger in your life. Don’t spend all your time focusing on your weakness while paying not attention to your life strengths…work at making your life strengths even stronger.

you can always find ways to compensate for your weakness – even by allowing others to help you with it.

Remember, no one in life is praised and recognized for their weaknesses – the world rewards you for your strengths.

Spend your time wisely by focusing at improving what you are already great at doing, rather than working tirelessly trying to get better at something your are horrible at doing…

Maximize Your Strengths & Talents At Work

Most of us have so many strengths and talents that can be used to do any number of things in our lives from living a more passionate and purpose-filled existence to literally improving our income and salaries – even on our jobs. Here’s a simple question.

Have you given any thought to maximizing your strengths and promoting your talents at work?

1. Discover Your Hidden Talents…
If you never spend the time learning about yourself and what your life offers others, you are working from a position of weakness in your life, business, and career. That simply means that the persons around you who know what they are great at doing and can sell themselves – will always have a clear advantage over you so…

(a) What are your strengths and weaknesses?

(b) How can you capitalize on your strengths and improve your weaknesses?

(c) Can you enhance your strengths and dissipate your weaknesses by learning on-the-job or by taking additional classes or training?

2. Promote Your Talents Within…
If no one know what you are capable of, it is much more difficult for opportunities to be passed across your path, so…

(a) Once you have an analysis of the talents you have to offer, start promoting them. If you don’t share them, then no one will.

(b) Talk with your boss about helping out the team. Your pathway to the top is by being someone who can be counted on.

3. Take Action – Nothing happens with decisive action…

It may be hard to focus on your talents when the world around you is so uncertain. Put your worries behind you, and your best foot forward. You can be proud of your effort no matter what happens.

Winning With Your Strengths In A Difficult Economy

This current climate we live in today is an ever changing landscape of shifting wealth, job cutbacks, layoffs, housing problems, and an all around environment of uncertainty.

There are so many different reasons today why people find themselves out of work, termination or in forced retirement, that it is unbelievable. Looking for another job in a tight job market can almost seem like an exercise in unavoidable failure and many times, you may just want a supplemental income to help cover the mountain of bills.

Now, I’m going to make a statement that may sound confusing to many of you – but pay attention, and you’ll see the value in what I’m saying. This is one of the best times to expand your life and seize the countless opportunities that are available.

The simple solution is that you need to put your strengths and skills to work more than even in these time – and do it effectively for maximum results…and the problem is, since many people don’t know how to do this and even where to begin, they feel stuck and helpless.

So let’s address this and give you some usable ideas so you are no longer stuck or feel helpless – are you ready? I’m going to ask you one simple question as professionals – now it does not matter whether you are the CEO of your own business or a stay at home mother of five – all of this applies to you regardless of you vocation.

Suggestion #1 – Why not take what you learned over the years and offer your services as a freelancer?

Whether it is writing, designing or consulting, there is a growing base of companies that need help, but cannot afford to hire a full-time person. They also may not need full-time help and can use an extra hand, or mind, during seasonal explosions in business. Retired executives are in demand as management consultants to help fledgling businesses learn from professionals who have been there and done that.

If you give it enough thought, there will be hidden talents that you used in your previous jobs that can be beneficial to another company, even if on a limited basis. This can be especially helpful for someone who recently retired and may just want a reason to get out of house. Or, if it’s raining and they can’t play golf.

Previous retail managers, for example may be able to help with store sets or with inventory control. Depending on their strengths in their previous work history, they can put those strengths as a consultant to new retailers. Small operations tend to shoot from the hip when looking at their product mix and an experienced operations or merchandising manager can offer them help to improve per-visit sales by their customers. Not everyone who owns or operates a retail outlet, or even an internet store, has the marketing savvy needed to increase customer sales.

Getting customers into the store can be another possibility for a former ad executive, or even someone who work in the advertising department of the local newspaper. If you have experience designing prints ads, many companies may be able to use your experience on a contractual basis. When they need a new ad, you can put it together for them, get paid for your work and move on to the next contract.

Everyone develops experience of some sort when they work and taking stock of your experience asset can be a plus in finding work, or even starting your own home-based business.

Take some time and asset your talents. Write them down on a piece of paper. You will be pleasantly surprised at the opportunities that come up as you brainstorm. Once you have identified your skills, hone in on the ones that you enjoy the most. You will be most successful when you pursue your passion.
